Two different deadlines
NYC Public Schools lists Friday, December 4, 2026 as the date high school and LaGuardia applications close. SHSAT registration for the eight testing Specialized High Schools closes much earlier, on October 30, 2026.
Students can apply to regular high school programs and also register for the SHSAT. Specialized High School offers are based on SHSAT scores and the preference order students list during SHSAT registration.
What families can do now
If your child plans to test, register before October 30 and then build the high school application at a steadier pace. Our SHSAT dates guide explains the order of steps, and our SHSAT prep page describes how we support students through the fall.
